BEAUCHER & LEA provided designs to restore the exterior of a previously aluminum-sided 1920's two-family house to its architectural simplicity. To comply with the owner's desire for "maintenance free" exterior finishes, Hardi-Plank, Hardi-shingle, and Tuffboard were used in the house's cladding. Its Ipe planked front porch and stained cedar railings will stand up to heavy traffic. The addition of period details, brackets, custom railings, and corner post add a layer that helps the home express historic reference. The client's budget supported a few extras, like light fixtures with elegant lines, but the overall project is a study in well thought materials - employed economically and cost effectively.
