Boston, Massachusetts

A married couple relocating from Manhattan to Boston retained BEAUCHER & LEA architecture to totally rethink their duplex penthouse condominium. Located in Boston's prestigious Back Back neighborhood, the project included total replacement of the existing roof deck and failed roof, gut-renovating two existing bathrooms and the kitchen, adding a new half bathroom and new mechanical and electrical systems. The existing and very outdated 80s style interiors were entirely replaced with a rich palate of materials and Zen quality inspired by the client's Asian heritage.

New stair connects two floors and roof deck. New stair was detailed by BEAUCHER & LEA and fabricated by Ramos Ironwork. Stair is composed of hand cut steel stringers and connections, custom milled solid oak treads and landings, as well as wood , steel and stainless steel railing assemblies. Existing brick masonry party wall was exposed creating an historic backdrop for the new sculptural stairs.
