Back Bay Penthouse & Roof Deck
Boston, Massachusetts

BEAUCHER & LEA carefully documented the existing roof deck prior to demolition and coordinated required approvals with the Back Bay Architectural Commission in order to allow an existing roof deck to be rebuilt to the fullest extent acceptable. Due to tightened code requirements and the clients' desires for easier access, an existing spiral access stair was removed and a new straight run stair was extended to the roof deck. The new stair allows walk-up access through a custom skylight hatch. The new roof deck was features an engineered decking system set onto an engineered steel frame to minimize the future need for maintenance. This urban virtual garden allows for ample space for relaxation, and even includes a custom gardening area, with electricity and water brought up to the roof level.

The re-built roof deck allows for city views of the Boston Skyline.

A custom skylight hatch from the stair hall allows access to the spacious roof deck.

The client requested a gardening area with garden hose connection.
